Effective Communications
Reading, writing, speaking and listening skills share the time equally.
- Reading for information, for inference, for denotation/connotation, and for multiple interpretations
- Writing skills: basic grammar, sentence construction, clarity, unity and coherence, knowing your audience, reports, letters, memos, minutes, newsletters, short stories. Both hard copy and Internet settings will be explored.
- Speaking skills include interviewing, phone dialogue, introductions, small talk, negotiating, public speaking, press conferences.
- Listening skills include empathy, mirroring, reframing, listening for affect, separating factual from emotional content, and “listening” to body language.
Creating TM
Designed by Robert Fritz, this course has been modified by our curriculum team.
- Participants set aside their normal “historical” and linear thinking, and replace it with a picture of the end results that are achievable and measurable.
- Secondly, we look at current reality;
- Thirdly, an emerging action plan. Only then is it possible to:
- Discern and differentiate between mutually exclusive and contradictory end results, in order to anticipate and prevent future difficulties.
Acorn Theory
Based on the text, The Soul’s Code, by James Hillman.
Explores the signs, hints, and idiosyncrasies of individual “acorns” through the lenses of biography, questionnaires, conversation, mentoring, and archetypes, childhood interactions, favourite imaginary characters, heroes/heroines, favourite gifts both received and withheld, personal writing, letters, favourite pastimes, specific talents and turning points.
Stress and Well-Being
Helps participants integrate specific habits to prevent excess stress, to anticipate predictable stressors and to reduce anxiety.
Topics such as “hot buttons,” toxic people, "rankism", abuse, self-esteem, saying “no,” negotiating options, “time-out,” visualization, self-talk, coping strategies, support systems, personal archetypes, and spirituality will be explored in a safe environment.
(The Acorn Centre facilitators have been trained in group processes, setting boundaries, transference and counter-transference dynamics and separating their own issues from those of the participants.)
